For my 25th birthday my mom booked my best friend, Alex, and I a trip to Colorado. The trip started out amazing. We went to the Rocky Mountain State Park, the Stanley hotel, Garden of the Gods, Estes, Old Town, and Windsor. The sightseeing was out of this world amazing. I had never seen mountains like the ones in Colorado before. I saw snow for the first time in about 20 years. It was gorgeous.

After a night of drinking, Alex woke up sick. I assumed he was hungover and dehydrated until he passed out. About 20 minutes later, paramedics and an ambulance arrived to take him to the closest hospital. Alex ended up getting a CT scan, and they found out that he ruptured his spleen. If you don’t know, the spleen is a fist sized organ located on the upper left side of your abdomen. Its job is to filter blood. Due to Alex rupturing his spleen, he had internal bleeding.

During this ordeal, I’m trying my best to be strong for Alex and trying to not have a panic attack. We ended up spending 3 days in the hospital. Luckily, the hospital was amazing, and the staff was nice. There is a controversy in the medical field on if you should get surgery for a ruptured spleen or let it heal on its own. The hospital decided to not do surgery on Alex, and to let him heal on his own. An issue that arose with this was that Alex wouldn’t be able to fly home.

We quickly realized that Alex and I were not equipped to deal with this issue. Alex’s dad ended up flying to Colorado to help us. When Alex got released, we had a big dinner where we discussed how we were going to get back to Florida. Alex got a great new nickname, Spleen Boy. We rented a car, and then the 3-day journey began. The hours were long, and there was not much to see after we left Colorado. I can officially say that I’ve been in Kansas. It was nothing but windmills and empty land for most of the drive.

The trip involved driving for 8 hours every day, and then sleeping at dingy hotels along the way. After the journey, I was overjoyed to be home. Alex is recovering from his injury, and he’s doing better now. Colorado was a tempestuous trip. I won’t be going back for a long time. This vacation was one of the most fun and stressful experiences I’ve had. All in all, be careful in Colorado and protect your spleen!

A lot of people want to be that mysterious stranger. The attraction to someone who you don’t know much about seems to be the newest trend. I don’t try to be mysterious; I am just vague. However, I’ve been told by multiple people that I seem mysterious. Here’s how I do it.

1. Don’t mention names when you’re telling a story. Say “my friend,” “my ex,” “my family” instead of actual names.

2. Be vague about things. You don’t want people to know everything about you, so don’t tell them major details.

3. Don’t post too many details about yourself or what you’re doing on social media. Instead, post pictures with captions that aren’t necessarily related to what you’re doing. Be silly and don’t take it seriously.

4. If you have an oversharing problem, think of a list of appropriate topics that you can overshare about. This list doesn’t include things that are serious about your life. Talk about your hobbies, random interests, cool facts, or stories.

5. If people try to get you to talk about yourself on a deeper level or answer questions that you don’t want to, change the subject. Become a master of diverting the conversation.

Try it out and become the mysterious stranger everyone is talking about. You will need to keep this up for a few months, so don’t expect overnight success.

How To Be Mysterious

1. Define what your style is and what vibe you’re going for. Ex: Soft core goth or preppy.

2. Find style inspirations and create looks like the ones they wear that you like.

3. Follow people who have your body type and copy the way that they dress their body.

4. Find colors that look good with your skin tone and wear those. My signature colors are black, dark green, and red.

5. Accessories can make or break the outfit. Sometimes over accessorizing looks great depending on the look you’re going for, or you may need to wear less. You can never go wrong with some earrings, a necklace, and rings.

6. Have a statement piece. Whether it’s a cute jacket, a nice shirt, or cool jeans.

7. Don’t be afraid to take risks and mix things up. Fashion should be fun, so don’t take it too seriously.
